Hi! I'm Apollo (they/he). I'm a trans guy living in the united states. I just recently turned 18 and started hrt, and I have some questions on what I should do as far as changing my name.

Do you guys thing it's safe for trans people in the U.S to change their name at this time?

So, in the state I live in, there was some legislature passed to where trans people have to change their ID's and documents to reflect their sex at birth. I was wondering if I should wait to change my name because of this? As far as I know it said nothing about birth name, but I worry that I may have issues if I change my name legally. I don't really mind not having my name legally changed as im completely out socially and never get called my deadname. I would prefer it as seeing it on legal documents, having to use it for job applications, etc. does kind of bother me in the sense that its just a painful reminder that I was born in the wrong body and I also have some negative emotions attached to my name aside from being trans, but if it'd be safer to wait I'd be okay doing so.

thoughs? should I wait or do you guys think I'd be okay to change my name legally? Do you guys thing its safe for trans people to follow through with legal name changes at all?
