TW spoilers for the movie obviously
So I wanna preface this by saying I'm a huge slasher simp. I only ever watched The Boy in the first place bc I saw people on Tumblr talk about how hot Brahms is, and he was my intro into the slasher loving community. I've seen it about two or three times, but last night I watched it with my very critical partner and with my own new critical brain and I have some thoughts, I'm curious to hear others opinions.
I think the movie is enjoyable, don't get me wrong, but I do think it has a lot of wasted potential. They could've done so much more with the "haunted doll" vibe they were going for in the beginning, and later they could've shown us more of "there's someone else here" if they wanted to, such as bites taken out of food, footprints, smells, something. Even if they didn't do that and built up the abusive boyfriend to be more threatening and scary when he shows up, I would be satisfied. It feels like "we're making a haunted doll movie oh shit 20 minutes left and something has to happen", if that makes sense.
I'm curious if anyone has other input or information I dont know, I'd like to have a discussion with someone bout it.
Also feel free to add me if you're 21+ and also a slasher or horror fan, it would be so fun to have more people to have conversations about horror movies with now that I'm starting to view them critically.
