Why is modern clothing complete trash now?!?

Fun fact I was originally going to make a whole ass YouTube video about this, but the editing would have taken so much time so here’s is my post/rant.

Why the fuck is modern clothing so trash now?, personally for me this has been a problem since the late 2010s. why does it feel like every single clothing item I buy feels like it was made on Shein somewhere? It’s not even just the quality of clothes, even the style and the whole minimalism trend of fashion has just made shit rlly boring. Like I get it in the 2000’s it was more of a maximalist era so of course it would inevitably switch, but I seriously just miss the quality and character clothing used to have back then. Back when clothes were actually made to last and weren't made to fulfill some kind of micro or macro trend that would die off within a week.

Like, I genuinely can no longer go into a store and find clothes that I genuinely like and would see myself wearing. I would go to Macy's; it's all a bunch of cheap crap, and it's not really my style. I go to Burlington, Kohls, or TJ Maxx (TJ Maxx never has shit for mens section. ) I’m just going to say that And a shit ton of the clothes are not good quality and look like they would go through hell in the washer.  I'm also going to admit there was a time when I was buying from Shein for a good one or two years (which I'm not proud of) until I stopped.

Looking back, I only shopped on there because the prices and the clothing, especially design-wise really intrigued me and and kept me on there, even though the quality was not worth it. I would always think to myself, "Damn, this shirt at Macy's is like $50, and I could buy like 12 shirts on Shein for that same price." Even now, I have a good amount of shirts from Shein that I don't wear that are just either laying in my room or were sent to Goodwill or Depop, but there are some clothes that I bought from there that I still wear to this day, which genuinely look good, but I will never shop on there.

For the past year, I've been trying to do thrifting and shopping on Depop as a way to find vintage and 2000s-type clothing, even though my mom thinks that it's not good to buy second-hand and that it should all be new, like bro If these major stores actually had the clothes that I like and made better quality clothing, I wouldn't have to do this, alright?  I’m not saying that I enjoy thrifting, but id rather thrift a clothing item that would probably lasts me longer and doesn't end up in some landfill. Over a shirt that's brand new but it was overpriced and cheap as hell.

So if anyone who works at a clothing store or sources clothes for stores, please give us better quality clothes, and a better variety to choose from. Thank you.

buisnesses stay blind, producing cheaper and cheaper piles of plastic. i lowk have 0 clue why the stuff they make today seems like its only good to bring color to a landfill, i assume theres some old dude they consult before they make anything relatively good and he says no, iits not like they arent still using the same slave labor we used back then.

sadly its all for profit.. we have lost appreciation and accesibility to high quality pieces. it is so hard to find good quality fabrics in clothing, and if you do, it will be a plain basic top and will probably cost upwards of eighty dollars. i understand that quality work is expensive, but i feel like the average person used to be able to build an entire wardrobe out of quality fabrics without it costing an arm and a leg. also using cheap synthetic fabrics like polyester makes it easier to quickly churn out the new obsession of the week designs for fast fashion, unfortunately

@Sophie I agree, and even clothes that are expensive don't even have a guarantee of being good quality. You're basically putting your hands into a bag of spikes, hoping you find a marble inside of it.

same struggle here, my focus is on why ppl want minimalism so much??? and ive heard ppl say what if they werent, so at least some ppl who do wear basic clothes do dislike it. aside from clothes being basic, their novelty has been ruined too. i used to get so excited to buy a hoodie and a pair of pants, id wear them for yearssss, now i have to get new shirts/ pants every year or couple months, which also js is shit for the environment too.

Its fucked, cause I started getting into trying to dress myself around Sophomore year of HS (2017-18) and I noticed the quality of stuff from Ross and Marshall's always seemed cheap for what things costed. I got way more wear out of things I've thrifted than some of the crap I bough brand new from alot of the typical clothing stores. You shouldn't have to spend more than $60 just to get something that might last more than half a year. Pretty much all clothes today are as basic as possible. Even as someone who isn't all that into fashion, it pisses me off that the majority of fashion now is as bland and undaring as possible.

Modern clothes feel cheap and boring because lots of brands chase fast trends and low prices, making thrifting or vintage styles a great way to find character and lasting pieces. Also check out sites like DM Fashion which offers a range of trendy clothing and accessories you can browse for inspo and variety.
