Despite the lack of concrete first-hand sources, the tale of the Loveland Frogmen has persisted. Supposedly, the first sighting was in 1955, though some sources I have found state that it was only reported after the second group of sightings. I could find no evidence of this, but I also couldn’t find any actual first-hand information on the 1955 account whatsoever. So instead of doing what I’m inclined to and finding evidence, I’ll be looking at the lore.
So according to the lore, the first sighting in May of 1955 was witnessed by a man listed as anything from a businessman to a line cook at a local diner. On his way home, he spotted a group of what seemed like three quasi-human frog like beings standing in a circle. It’s sometimes mentioned that the frogs (as we’ll call them, for lack of a better word) had large baggy pants and tight shirts. Either way, one of the creatures held a sparking wand above his head as the businessman quickly departed.
The next two sightings occurred in 1972, when two policemen, a week or two apart from each other, witnessed what seemed like a dead dog or lizard on the road that then abruptly lurched forward and over the railing. The difference in the sightings, however, was that the second officer, Matthews, actually shot at the creature. Years later, Officer Matthews rescinded his story, stating that it was simply a lost pet iguana. However, it is likely that it was due to pressure or scorn, as the first officer remained anonymous.
A year later a farmer sighted four creatures, described similarly to the 1955 sighting, inspecting and moving through his fields.
Then came the sighting in 2016. A young man was out playing Pokemon Go when he saw a large frog with reflective eyes. After pulling out his camera, the frog stands up, and he snaps what is now a famous photo. He himself stated that he is unsure if it was a Frogman or simply a large frog.
It is important to note that there is scepticism surrounding the 2016 sighting, with many skeptics pointing out that it could easily be a staged hoax, with a wetsuit and two flashlights. It also needs to be stated that the person who experienced the sightings has neither gone back on his story nor changed any details.
