One wintry night in early January I, my uncle Ryan, my uncle Crow, and my sister all went on a late night drive to see the Brown Mountain lights. My uncles were a bit more neglectful back then since Ryan is only 12 years older than I am, so of course we didn't actually go seeking out the lights.
An hour or so into our drive however we got lost. Pitch black, cold, rainy, night in bum fuck North Carolina and we were lost with very little to help since phone service was almost completely out. Soon after nearly half an hour trying to find a familiar road we were stopped abruptly by a figure running across the road. Something was off about it, something none of us really expected. Druggies are no rarity in these parts of NC, but it didn't just stumble around like it was on a high. The figure looked almost animal like with bright white pearls for eyes piercing through the black night as the headlights passed it by.
As I've grown up this experience never really left me. Not the scariest story but definitely one that I'll never forget. The fear child me had while ducking out of the view of this thing will remain with me for a long time.
