Educate me!

Hello! I am very new to the goth scene but I've been fond of it's music and what it's about for a while now and I've only recently started looking into more of it's music and history. I feel like an introduction to what goth really is would really help me since a lot of the information I do find feels scattered and vague. Reply away goths!

Hello fellow babybat. So Goth is a subculture based on music, with implicit politics, that has its origins in post-punk. Bands like Siouxsie and The Banshees, Bauhaus, The Cure, Joy Division, Sisters Of Mercy and more bands started influencing bands in the post-punk scene with darker sounds, synthesizers and introspective lyrics giving birth to amazing music genres like Darkwave, as an example. Though it is a music and politics based subculture, alongside the music came the use of DIY clothes, spikes, pins, dark colors (often black, influenced by Bauhaus) or second hand or thrifting as examples. To sum it up, it is a music, with implicit politics, based culture, a place when you can be yourself without the judging eye of the rest of the world. I wanna clarify that you don't have to dress goth to be goth, many people outside the culture seem to not understand this... Hope this was helpful to clarify your mind!! If I was wrong about any of the statements I've done, please correct me, I'm also a babybat and I may have screwed up on something...
