Should I switch to Linux? šŸ’»

I feel a bit weird asking this this question here but i think i need professional help, hope you don't mindĀ _(:3 ć€āˆ )_

As we all know, the Windows 11 situation is wild. I don’t even need to be a tech nerd to see how bad it is. Since the Windows 11 update dropped, I can’t help but notice that my laptop immediately became slower. I even got a warning from Windows saying this might happen if I don’t update to 11. Bro! 凸(`ā–³Ā“ļ¼ƒ) My laptop is NOT compatible with Windows 11!!!!! What do you want from me?!?!! Buy a new laptop?!?!?!

So… Linux…

The algorithm somehow thinks I’m very interested in Linux, because it keeps showing up in my YouTube recommendations… a lot. It’s working though, because I’m actually thinking about getting rid of Windows in my life. But I’m dumb, I don’t know anything about coding, and every time I see anything related to Linux it looks like the Matrix (;;;*_*)

That’s why I really need advice:

What should I do? (In general)

Are there any beginner-friendly study resources?

I’m not a gamer, so that’s not an issue, but I need Notepad, Notepad++, Word, Canva, GIMP, Foxit PDF Reader, Aegisub, and screen recording to work. (I use them a lot.)

Can I keep my old files and apps? Can I still connect to my iPhone (just to export images to USB)?

Can I customize it easily? Because I have a bunch of .ico and cursor files that I use on Windows, and I really want them to work.

Look weird i know i like it that way (ćƒŽĻ‰ćƒ½)

I’m also using a transparent theme for File Explorer. Can I do the same on Linux?

I don’t have a PC, I use this laptop every day. I’m also studying for an online bachelor’s degree, so I need it to work immediately. I don’t have time to search for and fix problems all the time.

I know I'm asking a lot I really appreciate if you spend a little to help me out(ć‚·. .)ć‚·

I may post this in many places so if you see me again then... hi~ āŠ‚( ̄▽ ̄)⊃

If you have any tips or recommendations, please help. äŗŗ(_ _*)

I'd say a "maybe sorta probably not? If you do want to switch though, use Mint."

You'll be needing some alternatives for word, since though the site works, you can't exactly have the app easily. I'm sure you can get it to work, but you'll be looking for it. Most Linux users just use the LibreOffice alt. As with FoxIt. Most users use Okular or Xreader instead. GIMP is VERY Linux-friendly, though. If this is a real dealbreaker for you, then don't switch.

Keeping old files is a little complicated. There's two things you can do; either dual boot and bloat your Laptop even more(dual booting means having 2 operating systems on your computer), or backup everything. You can still do it, though.

Yeah, you can connect with your phone on most OSs.

You can customize everything on Linux. Supposedly it's easy, but as a Lubuntu user it's been pretty hectic. Despite it being small and Ubuntu OSs being "beginner-friendly", don't use Lubuntu if you want EZ theming. Use a different distro, like the Mint I recommended earlier. And yes, if you can figure out themes you can have one transparent.

By the way, ask whatever education program you have if it's Linux-friendly. Sometimes switching to Linux makes schooling somewhat inaccessible. I don't mean this to scare you, but it is a concern.

If you want study resources, Reddit, the forum for your distro, and The First Page of Your Search Engine are probably fine. Be sure to check the dates, though. (I think that's why I keep messing up the theming on Lununtu, I didn't check the dates and made the whole thing complicated, combined with the whole Lxqt thing. Mint doesn't work on Lxqt, though, I don't think)

Linux will make your Laptop faster, though. Also, if you use Mint you won't need to know much coding (you don't need coding to learn most beginner Linux distros, but I assume you mean the terminal.)
