Are vampires a gothic-modern concept or just a metaphor for a kind of femme fatale?

I just joined the group, so why not a healthy discussion about it? (I'm looking for vampire friends, send me a friend request if you're interested!!) 

I heard last week that vampires are nothing more than modern gothic metaphors for a femme fatale. I even found it an interesting comparison; even though vampires have this association with a more seductive side, I don't think it politically fits the femme fatale stereotype. We have many variations of vampires and many personalities out there... Tell me your opinion, leave it in the comments!!
