As a reminder, we do not allow any AI-generated games in our group. ย This includes, but is not limited to:
- Games that use generative AI during gameplay.
- Games that have AI-generated assets (including text, images, audio, and voiceovers).
- Games that were developed using AI-generated code.
- Games with AI-generated cover art or other promotional material.
- Games that used AI-generated assets as placeholders for other assets.
Note that this does not include things like AI-controlled NPCs and enemies, which are not generative AI and have been a part of gaming for decades.
Steam does allow developers to provide AI disclosures for games, and displays them on the store page. Itch.io does allow developers to make their game as using generative AI, but does not display them on the store page. Most other platforms do not have them at all, and aren't interested in adding them, forcing people to check Steam to check to see if a game has a disclosure.
There are browser extensions you can use to show popups if a game discloses that they use generative AI on Steam and Itch.io. Both are available as Firefox and Chrome extensions, and as userscripts for extensions like Tampermonkey.
As with all extensions and userscripts, be careful with which ones you install.
