i dont know much about this but i did do some research, though youve probably already gotten your answer by now.
so basically, the genesis was marketed for the north american audience and the mega drive for the japanese audience. ntsc has a 60hz refresh rate while pal has a 50hz refresh rate. there are a few differences between ntsc-u (us, north america) and ntsc-j (japan) but its nothing too significant.
even though pal runs slower it can be modified to 60hz.
if you were asking about it like overall difference then uh, genesis using ntsc was basically for the us while the mega drive running on pal was for japan, europe and australia.
mega drive games and, vice versa, genesis games can be played on both consoles !! (technically speaking.. though mostly depending on what type of games you got !!!)
i dont know if there are other significant things i can point out..
well, mega drive turns into genesis when in america. (not literally)
i would say genesis is better..... mostly because of its name ahaha.. but it runs faster too apparently and im not spending time modifying the pal on the mega drive.
i dont know if i make sense </3
i might be like totally off too !!....
