Analog doomscrolling?

There's a youtube video I saw pretty recently that talked about 'analog doomscrolling' which I found pretty enlightening. Doomscrolling isn't exactly the right word, but it's more of having books on hand that you can just sort of open wherever, read a little, learn something, and move onto a new book and read a part of that too, and repeat however long you want.

Stuff like dictionaries (not just word dictionaries, but some that talk about specific topics like literary devices are good), art books, encyclopedias, atlases, books with other random knowledge and history. I think I actually did this a lot as a kid with cook books and activity books, where I'd open up the book wherever, read the recipe or activities, and imagine doing it (and you could also probably do the activity or make the recipe too, if you feel so inspired...). I think I've also been doing this a bit lately with magazines, since I've started collecting old magazines. This has been most successful in terms of getting me to actually read the articles with magazines that have subject matter that are more specific to my interests, but even just getting a random old magazine to look at the old pictures or ads is nice since having something nice to look can be all you want to do sometimes.

I don't know, just thought this was an interesting idea. Very simple in concept, but nice to remember that it's an alternative to scrolling on my phone for hours... and this way it both has a physical limit, but also has more valuable content than a lot of what is in the short form content online.

If any of you have any book or magazine recommendations that would work for something like this, by the way, please let me know! I'm always eager to find something new to read.
