I had a copy of TMNT #1. Like an idiot, I threw it away when I was a
teenager because I had read it so many times it was falling apart.
It was also a fifth printing which made me think it was essentially
worthless. The odd thing is that it had the original #1 cover, and
NOT the fifth printing cover.
I still remember
buying it. There was a small stack of the comics on the bottom shelf
in the toy aisle of a Hills store, with the action figures hanging
above. This was when the Playmates line just came out.
The smell of those
figures (from the rubber heads?), the taste of TMNT cereal every
morning before school, and the sheer level of absolute marketing
domination during that time are things that I will never forget.
