Like the last person said, bandlab is a great DAW. For your first few albums, Bandcamp is definitely an easier/cheaper distributor than Spotify.
1. Biggest tip I have: establish the roles of your band members early. Figure out who is going to play which instrument in advance. Figure out whose parents are the most okay with their house being the meetup/recording spot. It's okay to say no to people.
Back in middle school (a whole decade ago atp) when I tried starting a band, I had four different people that wanted to be singers. I wanted to play guitar and we had one of the singer people that kinda knew how to play piano but didn't actually want to play piano for it. You need to figure out roles early and which people are actually going to show up to record / practice. A band with 4 and a half singers and a single guitarist that only knew power chords (at the time) WILL NOT WORK.
2. Figure out the main genre y'all want to play early, but know that whatever you make will probably not sound anything like it. Your sound won't be exactly the same as what you want it to be and that's okay.
It's difficult to keep everyone happy when you want to play rock, but the pianist listens to pop, your singer is emo, your bassist only plays gospel, and your drummer only knows slipknot fills. But sounding like a monstrosity mix of everything is inevitable, at least in the beginning.
