The Year 2025 Marks 1,700 Years Since the First Council of Nicaea

Who would have thought that the year 2025 will mark 1,700 years since the First Council of Nicaea. Opened in May and closed in July 325 by the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great, it was the first ecumenical council in Christian history. It produced a statement of belief or creed that, finalised by the First Council of Constantinople in 381, has become the universal foundation of Christian faith that must be accepted by all who profess to be Christians.

This council can be understood as the first big step to institutionalize christianity into the official religion of the Roman Empire (392). It proclaims a uniformed dogma of christianity which distinguishes the Church (united under the Emperor and a clear dogma) from the first "heresy" (= all christians who do not bend to this new imperial Church).

It's as much a political event as a religious one. The nicean church fights against all the gnostic christians, but also it creates a network of local churches who are loyal to the Emperor and his faith.

It launches this very catholic trend of a sole giant unified Church which diabolizes the other branches of the christian faith and is also a political structure, a supervisor of conciousness, a universal "public service" of sort...
