i personally have always wanted to be the kinda person who listens to a lot of different music and artists. issue is, if i find something i like the sound of, chances are that all the artists other music sounds similar and i will like that too.

that's basically how i ended up listening to maybe like 8-12 artists' entire discography (almost) and maybe a few other bands here and there.

i want a diversified playlist and music taste but the same few artists sustain my musical needs (if that makes sense). even if i try to branch out i will just start listening to like one (1) new artist and that doesn't really feel like progress.

can anyone else relate or is this just a weird me thing lol

ohmygosh im literally the same, but I don't usually listen to entire discographies. I feel so uncultured for not listening to all songs artists have, I usually pick 4-8 that I like a lot and stick with those T_T

i have this issue where if i decide i want to get into a new artist (either after hearing one or two songs, or by word of mouth or direct recommendation) i have to go through their entire discography in chronological order. it doesn't really matter if i even end up liking them or not i have to do it. It's made for a lot of added musical knowledge snd also a lot of headaches lol, and they usually don't get added into my regular listening music.

at the same time i also have difficulties really branching out of the bands/artists i'm already well-acquainted with. even with the more i guess "diversified" taste i have now i always find myself resorting back to those i know like the back of my hand and love immensely by default. its even worse when i develop a hyperfixation on any given musician because their music becomes the absolute only thing i can stomach listening to for months on end. but that's all kind of the beautiful thing about music, is it not? to find the music that really clicks with you deep in your soul and to be able to consume it in your own way that brings you closer to it is one of the best feelings ever imho

tldr yes i do relate
