What do you think the reception would be to a newgen artist/group doing a 2000s style song/concept in this day

And when I say 2000s I don't mean newjeans y2k type of style we have been seeing lately i mean what was popular during 2nd gen, a focus on ballads, electropop, the heavy eyeliner...you get what I mean

If newer groups were to try and replicate that era of kpop in this day how do you imagine newer fans would respond and what about older fans? Would they love it or not

Silly thought I had since many groups are recycling 2000s stuff rn idk-

honestly i think newer fans would hype it if the group already has popularity, but if some fresh rookies came out doing full 2nd-gen eyeliner, synthy electropop and sad winter ballads, most zoomers would be like “oh that’s cute” then maybe move on. older fans tho… they’d eat it up just for the nostalgia hit, but also side-eye it cuz nothing now (u can say if i'm wrong) can recreate that weird hungry energy idols had back then (it was a whole wave… like people forget). still, if one group committed hard, like really lived that sound, they’d stand out fast and maybe even start a mini-renaissance >:D i hope that happens!!!

Same thoughts i had

If they were to put all their effort into it i would be interested but if it's for a quick nostalgia moment then it will go by fast-

i'd love to see it (esp the heavy eyeliner, it's so iconic), but from what i've seen i really don't know what the vibes would be on the side of fans. i think older fans would love it, as koi said, and the possible blend of the old and new could be interesting. especially as older artists could form their own labels and groups, bringing that experience in...

newer (and by this i mean fans who are only interested in the newer sounds and concepts) fans, i'm not sure. depends on trends, and how much / far it differs from what we have right now, or even in the future. especially with the way social media and promotions are now, and how that's integrated into the industry... if it happened gradually, i could see it going well. but if it happened all at once, as a shock, it's more of a coin flip i feel.

also, if they ever use genai to make a 2nd-gen themed mv or concept photos, i'll be so angry...
