I SAW PAUL!?

I got nosebleed seats. Before he came out, they projected this scrolling video of a tower, each floor chronologically designed like a different era of the Beatles/his solo career, as accompanying music played. After 15 minutes or so, it slowly reaches the top playing the disconcerted orchestra from Day in the Life, until the animation ends in space with Paul's bass at the top of the tower- and DUNNNN (the end of Day in the Life)! I WAS SO AMPED.

Then he came out with his band and plays Help! It was surreal to hear this music written in 1965 being performed live EXACTLY like the recording. The lights were incredible!!!

The whole night Paul was overwhelmingly charming- exactly like the old interviews when the Beatles' appeal was their Liverpool boyish manner. He even told a few anecdotes!

Paul played Something with the ukelele George wrote it on and gifted him! The guitarist's tone and playing sounded exactly like the recording- it had that wail!

When he played Blackbird, the stage lifted 25 feet in the air and transformed into a bird cage with a bird inside. The bird flied from under his feet onto the screen behind him into the night.

He played Wings Let Me Roll It to You (my favorite song!) and Band on the Run. I cried ;0

AND THEN...

He performed "Live and Let Die". At the start of that first chorus (...live and let die-- BUM), the stage exploded with HUGE fireballs that cracked the air like whips with every piano chord. AND THEN... when the dramatic instrumentals come in, columns of fire cross behind the band, lasers start flashing towards the audience, and brilliant fireworks tower hundreds of feet behind the stage. It was a magenta rainbow. Pure insanity!

At the final explosion, the camera shows Paul plug his ears, bend over the piano, and brace himself for impact lol.

He asked the men and women to sing along to Hey, Jude (na na na na) and you could hear the entire amphitheater singing!

When we begged him to come back for an encore, he and his band were waiving huge flags across the stage- a pride flag, an American flag, a United Kingdom flag, and I think my state's flag!

HE PLAYED HELTER SKELTER EVERYONE. AS ONE OF THE ENCORES. The lights were cherry red and the backdrop looked like a Eddie Van Halen guitar. Too cool...

All night, we had a lurid moon opposite the stage that Paul kept pointing our attention to.

Best concert I will ever see! Mentally, I am still there... Did anyone else go to the Got Back tour?
