When did you get into vocaloid?

I got into vocaloid in 2017 or 2018, during what's often called the Mikupocalypse/Sand Planet era. I was mentally ill at the time, and songs by Wowaka and Neru (remember when he used to make sad rock music?) really spoke to me. I was only 10-11 at the time, and I felt like my age demographic was the large minority, but we were the forward thinking newbies to the scene.

Well, I'm 18 now. Project Diva has been replaced by Project Sekai, and I am always seeing people with the same naive tendencies I did at the time. It can be tough, knowing I'm not the kind of person that producers make songs for anymore, but I also enjoy reveling in my nistoalgia.

So, when did you guys get into vocaloid? How do you feel about how the community has shifted?

i dont have precise dates or remember how old i was exactly, but it was probably 2009-2011 when i first got into vocaloid ; i loved nightcore (and still go back to it fairly often,) and i think the vocaloid and nightcore communities had a lot of overlap in the old YT space-- it just got recommended to me along with the usual stuff i was already listening to ヽ(✿゚▽゚)ノ

i didnt become a more "serious" fan, or intentionally seek out vocaloid stuff, until around middle school in like, 2014-2016? (^◕.◕^) its hard to pinpoint when i went from casual listener to being *really* into it, since ive listened to vocaloid basically as long as ive been online

I got into vocaloid when I was like 10 yrs old (around 2012) because my cousin introduced me to it, with songs Matryoshka and Servant of Evil, I still remember xD

I was very obsessed for some years with vocaloid and watched a lot of songs and content about lore in youtube. I can’t tell you about the community change because now the only thing I do vocaloid-related is going back to my old playlist on youtube and binge all that whenever I feel nostalgic.

I got into vocaloid in 2023 and I enjoy both the old and new media although I find the old media very interesting because it's very weird and unpolished and sometimes misterious (but I think that's how pretty much the internet in general was at the time) and there were more horror songs than now and I also love waching old low quality vocaloid mmd videos they always make me giggle especially the weird ones.

Teto. I love Teto with every fiver of my being and I love both her utau voicebank and her synthv voicebank but I do think that her utau vb is 100x better. I primarily prefer that one bc you actually have to tune it for it to sound good so it will sound different depending on the producer, but you don't rlly have to tune her synthv vb for it to sound good so most ppl don't bc tuning ir rlly hard and in result she sounds exactly the same in every song. This is an issue I have with ai voicebanks in general. (but at least they're ethical)

My thoughts on pjsk! I never understood the pjsk hate bc like aside of some ppl thinking that vocaloid is from pjsk I don't see anything wrong with this game. Personally I don't like it bc it's just not rlly fun for me (I suck at rythm ganes) but u do u!
