I feel like (from what I've seen) alot of baby bats and "newbies" are shunned nowadays for "not doing right" or liking trending songs or not being educated enough about the culture they're trying to be a part of.And the worse part is most of these baby bats are teenagers!! I think the best part of being part of any subculture is the discovery. Learning about the history/culture,discovering new artists or bands and honestly just the process of educating yourself of that style. Its not something that will happen overnight and it shouldn't be!!There is so much fun about going down rabbit holes over bands or digging into the origins of cultures! It's freaking awesome! And you should enjoy it! The fun part about being new to any culture (goth, gyaru, vkei, emo, scene, punk) is that there are so many things to discover and learn.I guess what I'm trynna say is if your a newbie to a style/culture don't feel pressured to know everything at once for fear of being called a poser, just take in everything you can (and dont rush) and most importantly enjoy yourself! This is YOUR self expression not a test to authenticate yourself for others<3

Completely agree!! I'm so thankful i wasn't on social media when I was a baby alt (and a teen, same period) because wow the energy some people give newcomers, especially younger ones, is NOT it! We should encourage the discovery!!

Exactly!! And most of the time we're looking up to the older generations, I think what we need is genuine advice and information and less belittling and cyber bullying.  But you can only ask for so much I guess :(

You said the thing. What teenagers and early 20’s miss nowadays, is the KNOWLEDGE IN HISTORY. I talk about subculture, fandom, if you wish. They’re arriving in a fandom, and everything has to be the way they want it. They want to be smarter than anyone else. They’re upset and throwing themselves on the floor, whining, if someone points out, what’s the deal there. That without listening and researching, they’ll have no knowledge. What am I supposed to say after this? Nothing. I isolate.

Back then, my first months in a subculture or fandom, were spent with researching. Getting to know what I’m getting into. And these? These want to change established things, because they dislike them. Girl, move somewhere else then, somewhere you like it?! Holy shit
