How did you discover Elliott Smith?

I love to hear fan stories. Sometimes it's as simple as finding his music on streaming services or actually meeting him. I encountered Elliott over a year ago through a friend. Sadly we don't talk anymore but I am eternally grateful to him. He wasn't a big fan of Elliott but liked a few songs off Figure 8. I think the loss of that friend is a reason why i'm so attached to Elliott too. Other than that, I find a lot of great emotional value in his songs. If I were alive when he was then we most likely wouldn't have been friends, but it would have been cool to chat with him at least once.
