TST Satanism misunderstanding, and the non-theistic in general.

I was never personally religious. Of course, being midwestern and poor, that doesn't mean I didn't know of it. My grandmother used to sing me biblical lullabies (which I still love to this day) and I often interacted with church kids.

It changed when I found a book my dad had, a weird one called "The Satanic Bible". I asked my dad about it then, but, it took awhile before he actually told me what it was, and what Satanism was too. This is where my journey started.

To put this barely started story short, I ended up believing in The Satanic Temple, and am a registered member. Living my life according to the best scientific data we know as a human race has helped me greatly, especially with my paranoia and depressive states. There is one caveat, though.

It's quite misunderstood. We're often grouped in with those who believe in spiritualism and a god. I don't believe that's really bad in anyway, just a mischaracterization of the religion. Some may still worship Satan as a symbol, but never as a higher power or God. Anyway, with all that said, what misunderstandings have YOU seen?

personally, anyone and everyone who's ever talked about satanism near me always relates it to cult activities, sacrifices, summoning demons, etc.

never made sense to me. im not a religious person myself, nor have i investigated satanism and what it is, but i feel like people wouldnt openly practice a religion that has illegal activities. i dont wanna say "oh people should just be more open-minded!" but i do think it would benefit everyone if people stopped jumping to conclusions.

Worshipping Satan as a symbol whilst refusing any and all kind of spirituality and metaphysics will not stop being stupid to me. What is the purpose of this edgy atheism? What goals are you truly achieving with this other than satisfying some sort of personal scorn against Abrahamic religions, at the same time as professing that you really don't actualy believe in much of anything? It's unserious.

LaVey was a very interesting man but I'm not fond of his works whatsoever, quite frankly.

That's fine if you don't like LaVeyan's work. He's not a representative of The Stanic Temple, neither are his works. I'm not too fond of some of his opinions too.

Otherwise, though I cannot explain why specifically others worship the symbol of Satan non-spiritually, I can tell you most don't do it to be edgy. It's more about worshipping the symbol of the Eternal Rebel, one that stands for justice in all things, advocacy even. And, if you don't exactly know, advocacy is a big part of our tenents and beliefs (Refer to the "Advocacy" tab in the official TST website or Tenent II).

I also noticed you ask for a purpose/goal to this more or so edgy atheism. I had listed in small part my own reasons, (Refer to "Living my life according to the best scientific data we know as a human race has helped me greatly, especially with my paranoia and depressive states") but otherwise, Satanism is a religion mostly about self-esteem (and rejection of religious harm, or harm done in the name of religion).

The Satanic Temple does do both (Trying to raise one's self esteem and rejected religions encroaching on the common man), and something you may find interesting is the practice of un-baptizing. It is a ritual performed by the church that has multiple effects, one being as to reject your previsois superstitual beliefs, and rejoice in your new view of religion and new pursuit of knowledge. The other is to free them from a religion they did not agree to be in a religion as a child or made to be, so y'know. Un-baptizing the baptized. It comes in many more forms than this, but I'd thought it'd be good to know. Could it be considered spiritual? Sure. But most can believe that it's more symbolic than anything.

Also, giving it a second read, why do you believe we do not hold any beliefs? We hold seven tenents ourselves, which can be found and read again on the website.

Anyway, thanks for the think. Hope this explains the religion better.
