How did you come up with the design for your fursona?

Hello there!

So I’ve been in the furry community for a while now and I did make a fursona at the beginning which was a blue wolf and I heard that that was a very normal pick for newbies so I kind of stepped away from that and didn’t focus on making a new one.

But now that I have a better idea of the community and all the different styles and species, I’ve really became interested in making my own fursona but there’s so many things I could do with it that I don’t know where to even begin.

That’s why I’m curious about how other people came up with their designs so that maybe I could take some inspiration from that and come up with something for my own fursona.

It was entirely situational for me. I mainly drew one-pencil or pen doodles when starting out and that gave me a monochrome white/grey/black fur colour scheme (which actually comes in handy in terms of fursuit making as “natural” coloured furs are less expensive!), blue shirt because I prefer to clothe furries and I needed SOME colour lol, plus my favourite accessory, and whatever species I liked the most at the time.

If you’re thinking of your own, I’d suggest just using your current favourite “things” to draw from and come up with vague concepts. You could even pay a cheap commissioner to draw out some of these ideas and see if one of them clicks for you.

i'm actually in the process of designing a fursona right now, and i'm taking a lot of inspiration from myself irl. for example: i have a skin condition called tinea versicolor, which causes skin discoloration in the form of dark (or light) spots all over my skin. its non contagious and i dont really mind having it on me, so i'm taking something that looks similar (doe spots) and putting it on my favorite animal (fox). I have also been told i give off raccoon vibes, so i might try and find some way to incorporate raccoons into my new fursona as well.

additionally, once i made a post on tiktok saying that i dont really have a main fursona, and that incidentally caused a bunch of furry artist to come out of the woodwork to design me a fursona, to which i picked this one: A red fox with brown curly hair in a brown and yellow hoodie

Honestly, for me, I just kept editing it until I felt I liked it. At first it was a cat, then a wolf, then a protogen, then a spider, then a Protospider hybrid, then I swapped to.. something that kinda looks like puppycat.

I'll probably end up editing it again!

A fursona can be whatevr you want. Have fun and experiment and you'll find something that suits you eventually.

I'm no artist so i got rlly lucky when a friend of mine offered to design/draw my sona for free LOL. What i did then was create a collection on Pinterest with things i like, the aesthetics i dig (stuff like y2k), clothes I wear IRL and the species i like/identify with the most. After that i just sent her the collection and waited patiently. :3

Well, for me, I use references from the actual animal (say, Google Stock photos) and dress them up with clothing I like to wear, then I try to shape the animal like a human, or vice versa, draw the human with part of the animal's proportions.

Gacha Life 2 helps a lot! It's almost a drawing tool by how resourceful it is, especially when it comes to outfit references, I swear

Yet at the end of the day, it's a constant work in progress, no matter how good your design is, after months, you're definitely altering something, so enjoy it, hell, draw everything as a wolf furry if that's your comfort zone, drawing's about enjoying :3

It was actually second life. At first I was just a red fox with red hair but I found the arctic fox character model and liked it a lot, so, that become my fursona design. I did a tweak then where the ears are longer and say that's my half golden jackal side, a way to bring my middle eastern heritage into my fursona.

i feel like am kinda not meant to answer this question since my fursona is kinda "basic"... but this is spacehey and i get to be cringe and free!!!! > : P

soooo before i finalized my fursona design, i always knew it would be a red panda since they're my favorite animal, as for the the rest of the design tho... yeaaa i had a hard time thinking of it since i couldn't really draw and all and most of the "fursona maker" stuff i found online didn't really catch my eye = Ɐ = "

that is until i found catalog avatar creator on roblox and ohhhh my godddd the versatility in creating your avatar is just... wow

bcs of the numerous fashion and avatar accessories i was able to quickly incorporate my interests and whatnot to my fursona and, lo and behold, i get to have an emo orange red panda as my avatar (after saving enough robux to purchase it bcs jeez... the prices... @ _ @ )
