I live in a deeply Southern, very red state, and go to an affluent school, so I have a sort of double dose of conservatism in my daily life.
I have this one friend who I talk to; we're chill, but we don't hang out outside of school. But, every time politics are brought up, she quickly blurts out that she supports whatever she thinks trump would think and then doesn't let anybody talk any further, since she "doesn't wanna talk about politics" (??). She seems to think that her views (that aren't really hers) are the default. Not sure how to interact with that, but I feel like I generally have a duty to attempt to open peoples' minds to critical thinking and debate. lmk if u have opinions on that as well!
I haven't just been shoving quantitative and concrete facts in her face, since that's been psychologically proven to be largely ineffective, but any kind of qualitative story/facts don't seem to get us exchanging ideas either.
She misgenders my friends constantly, even though she denies it, and makes me uncomfortable by blindly supporting people who are hateful toward immigrants, women, LGBTQ+ ppl, yk the drill. But then she supports me being gay (??). no idea, folks.
AITA for wanting to drop her and never speak to her again? She wants to be close friends with me. How do i approach this pls help...
