Okay, this is kind of a vent turned philosophical thingy. Whenever I feel as I did something wrong my brain automatically tells me to say ‘Im stupid’ This isn’t really a problem, as Im used to having intrusive thoughts that I am to ignore, but when I do something wrong while Im with people who’s opinions I care about the sentence skips the doublecheck. So when it gets to me I ask myself,
What does it mean to be ‘stupid’? What is ‘stupidity’? There are many people in this world that I consider to be stupid, but why? Is it because that’s how I was taught to think about them? Or because they have a different opinion than I do? Or do I just not like them so I default to insulting them and ‘stupid’ is a common insult and has a very strong negative connotation? So I’ve decided to ask myself why I think a person is stupid and what is stupidity whenever I think someone is stupid. As I’ve thought over what stupidity is, I’ve come to the conclusion that ‘being stupid’ is choosing to remain ignorant.
So now as I overthink and my brain tells me I’m stupid, I stop and ask myself, ‘am I choosing to stay ignorant?’ Tbh the answer is usually yes so I ask if I’m choosing to stay ignorant in a way that involves what made me think Im stupid, which is usually no, it’s not that Im Choosing to be ignorant, I just haven’t learned that yet or my brain skipped over a file while looking for the right information or I didn’t understand it how they wanted me to.
I would like to say that being stupid isn’t a crime, there are reasons why people choose to not learn anymore, but it is important to give information a shot. You don’t have to watch all of the news that tells you that someone who lives down the street got shot (I live in America), or how war prisoners were tortured. Try to know what’s going on and why, you don’t need details, you’re just getting a general feel for the situation. To choose to be completely ignorant is an issue, by not knowing what’s going on, you can’t choose the best course for yourself. I highly encourage you to stay curious, and keep on asking questions, but you’re reading this, so that tells me that I don’t have to worry about you.
