I noticed that everyone seems to have a difficult time trying to find new people to meet, and forum posts are not an ideal space for people to have fluid conversations in due to their focused nature + people responding several hours/days after the fact when they decide to check back on the topic they talked in.
So, here's my suggestion: Public Chatrooms, aka "The Tavern" or "The Lounge".
The basic gist of public chatrooms is that they allow people to chat in real-time with each other without a prerequisite topic or friendship status.
You can join in whenever you want, and people will see that you've joined (or left) the chat when doing so to greet you, or check your profile.
You cannot see chat history when joining in, this is to prevent instances where people might feel shy or hesitant to talk because they might be butting in on an already ongoing conversation. It also helps users feel like there's a bit more privacy, so they can talk a bit more openly without worrying about someone looking back for "cringe" messages to use to feed into drama or stuff like that.
The chat room should be simple, and maybe support basic html for messages. This doesn't need to be a full on Discord or Steam replacement, just a single giant room where you see who is online while messaging.
