Im working on a blog post about alterhumans and oppression and i need your help!

So for context, its based on another writing i saw about otherkin oppression (https://haunt.wtf/rook-writings/oppression-otherkin) and i was wanting to know thoughts upon this topic like:

Do you believe alterhumans are oppressed? Why or why not?

Have you experienced oppression (oppression is stuff like transphobia, abelism, racism, etc. in this context its for being alterhuman) for being alterhuman?

Have you experienced a different kind of oppression that affected your alterhumanity?

Do you believe theres history behind alterhuman oppression? Are there any sources or contexts for this?

Is oppression within our own community? (ex, policing identities or sterotyping others negatively)

Any question not on this post you can still answer! And any answer is welcomed, even if you disagree or agree that alterhumans are or arent oppressed.

Honestly, I think there's no oppression to alterhumans the same way there's racism, xenophobia and homophobia, but I believe there's oppression on a smaller scale. The way I constantly have to hide my identity to everyone who isn't an alterhumans, and I can't even wear ears and tail without being made fun of or having a talk with my parents even thought it helps me with phantoms shifts would be an example of oppression on a small scale. Although I think oppression is not the right word, but discrimination would be better. The reason why we're discriminated and not opressed is because at least in my view oppression is a stronger word, and there aren't people being hit, assaulted or even killed for existing, at least to my knowledge. It's just a matter of time, when we become more mainstream I'm sure violence towards alterhumans will be more frequent.

I do not believe that alterhumans are oppressed on a systemic level, but may begin to be. I do believe we can and have experienced discrimination of different kinds in the past and now, because of our unconventional identities.

Have you experienced oppression (oppression is stuff like transphobia, abelism, racism, etc. in this context its for being alterhuman) for being alterhuman?

Not oppression, but discrimination and bullying, yes. Being called names, threatened, being mistreated or othered are some of the things I’ve experienced.

Have you experienced a different kind of oppression that affected your alterhumanity?

Unsure.

Do you believe theres history behind alterhuman oppression? Are there any sources or contexts for this?

Not much, but I do believe there are reasons and causes for current possibilities of oppression in the future, and current discrimination (such as the rise in bullying online and anti-intellectualism).

Is oppression within our own community? (ex, policing identities or sterotyping others negatively)

Absolutely. It is a huge problem, especially with younger folks who may not do enough proper research. Physical alterhumans like myself have faced large amounts of excess bullying due to the watering down of definitions to fit other’s expectations and narratives (despite the fact that the community is quite literally built upon the backs of physical alterhumans). I do hope others learn and grow with time.

The only oppression alterhumans face is found within the community itself. Alterhumanity is nowhere near being recognized in the greater public, and is often dismissed as a harmless children’s activity. There are no laws restricting being an alterhuman, you cannot be barred from employment or marriage if you are alterhuman.

Quite frankly to claim that alterhumans are oppressed is ridiculous. How can a group that isn’t even recognized by the government, let alone your next door neighbor, think they are being targeted? And if any ‘bills’ pop up, they are usually aimed at the furry subculture.

Are alterhumans misunderstood? Bullied? Yes. As any online community that steps outside of normal behaviors and strays away from human-centered thinking. We cannot control other people’s behaviors and mindsets. In a perfect world everyone would be accepting and open minded, but sadly that is not reality.

Point being - nobody is being arrested specifically for being a therian. And until that happens, no, alterhumans are not oppressed
