What are peoples thoughts on having a gothic aesthetic while not favoring the music?

I know there is popular discourse about this online but I couldn't find any definitive answer, personally I listen to metal much more frequently, but I would describe my style and desired aesthetic to be goth-adjacent. 

It's not that I don't listen to the music, but when asked what I listen to, I would much sooner say metal.

Or is it just not that deep lol.

Goths can listen to other music than goth music and as long as you listen to goth music too and want to be in/identify with goth subculture (and don't go against politics) you are goth, if someone doesn't listen to the music at all and just dresses this way they dress gothic from what I understand :]
