Theism or Nihilism

If God exists, life has a purpose. If God does not exist, then all meanings we ascribe can be accepted at the phenomenal level, yet they remain objectively insufficient. What do you think?

some objective anchor, like God, does seem necessary for any meaning or value to exist in an absolute sense.

i would be interested to hear how an atheist would square this particular question.
