What has been up with shoegaze lately??

now, i ADORE shoegaze, one of my favorite genres of all time, but i’ve found it to become so ridiculously boring in recent times. almost all releases sound the same to me. Now that is not to discredit all modern shoegaze, there’s quite a large amount of great music coming out, but that amount doesn’t compare to the tiktok slop being mass produced, like quannic, whatsaheart, or flyingfish. i mean i like flyingfish and some whatsaheart songs, but christ they have inspired evwryone to want to sound the exact same and it drives me insane. i wish there was some more innovative stuff within the genre aswell instead of sticking to the same formula, not to say the formula is bad i just wish there was more variation, like combining shoegaze with maybe harsh noise? i would love to see that. i love the emergence of grindgaze, it’s a great genre i’m excited to see grow, but there’s just not very much like grindgaze or post black that doesn’t all sound the same. i don’t really know this whole post is just a rant that all shoegaze sounds the same now and i feel like i’m getting bored of it, thanks for reading.
