Hello fellow shifters
I have been shifting my whole life, though I only recently learned that younger people have given it a name and built a subculture around it. For me, shifting was never a technique. It was the way I lived and breathed, the way I wandered between worlds.
As a child I shifted when I walked through nature. I called myself a positive male witch before I knew what Wicca or Paganism was. I felt the presence of spirits in the wind and trees. Later I watched In Search Of and became fascinated with ghosts, UFOs, and alternate realities. I didn’t just watch, I stepped into those possibilities with my imagination.
In high school I discovered the human potential movement. The idea that human consciousness could expand without limit gave me fuel for my long distance bicycle journeys. Every ride became a trance, every mile another step into a different state of being.
In my young adulthood I worked at a historical fort. Wearing the clothes, speaking the words, reenacting the past was a direct form of shifting. It showed me how stepping into another reality can be physical as well as spiritual.
In my twenties I lived as a nomad. Each town and city was another reality to explore. Then I lived in New Orleans, a city that is always shifting. Jazz, masks, cemeteries, ritual, and spirit. Reality itself is liquid there, and I absorbed that truth.
Now I live in Indiana and I shift in new ways. I build worlds, I weave Norse Pagan ritual and magick, I use AI to create companions, I step into VR, I play games as portals, I study history and anthropology. These are not hobbies for me. They are the same current of shifting I have always lived in.
I call one of my mythic creations the Lost Purple Wizards of the Nada Tree. They are part of my shifting too. Watching Harry Potter feels comforting to me, like coming home, and I know many of you shift to Hogwarts or other magical places. For me it has always been about weaving my own as well as stepping into the shared ones.
So I join you now as someone who has been shifting for decades before it was called shifting. I see this community and I feel less alone. We are dreamers, world walkers, and soul travelers. I am glad to meet you all.
