I've noticed we're almost completely invisible except as a problem or punchline. The most famous film involving Puerto Rico in any way is still West Side Story, which is almost 70 years old at this point (also, that Puerto Ricans In Paris movie was not good) and the only depictions of Puerto Rican life in the mainland all center on NYC.
Like, I get there are more there than in almost any other city, but we have a gigantic presence in Philly, Boston, Chicago, and the whole state of Florida too. Maybe it's just a bias against Spanish-speaking countries, but I've noticed Jamaica and Hawaii get significantly more attention and mainstreaming of their music, fashion, and cultural symbols in the United States than we do. I mean, yes, Bad Bunny has been popular for some time now, but I feel like awareness of our music gets reduced to just reggaeton and pre-1970s salsa.
