Two things I've learned in life:
1) everybody you ever meet is a sad scared lonely hurting child. Most people don't know how to process their own emotions, or sometimes they're so lost in their own fog of mental illness that it's hard for them to see beyond themselves due to needing to survive, either literally or just socially
2) An interesting quote from a book called The Science of Good and Evil: "Most people in most places most of the time do the right thing." Humans are essentially good. It's only that handful of assholes you have to watch out for
