Hey there! New to SEVENTEEN? Well, no worries!
Here's an introduction to the group and everything from members, to sub-units, and solo-tracks!
Who are SEVENTEEN?
SEVENTEEN is a self-produced Korean boy band formed by Pledis Entertainment. (For reference, Pledis comes under a larger entertainment company called HYBE, which owns other sub-companies like BIGHIT, ADOR, etc.)
SEVENTEEN debuted on May 26, 2015, with 13 final members: S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Wonwoo, Hoshi, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Vernon, Seungkwan, and Dino.
They debuted with their extended play (EP), 17 Carat, which was later included in "10 Best K-Pop Albums in 2015", considering they were a rookie group and had only recently debuted.
Why are they called a "self-producing K-Pop group?"
SEVENTEEN has come a long, long way. Back in 2013-2015, when SEVENTEEN members were still being recruited, Pledis was going bankrupt. They had no hope and spent the little money they had on trying to train SEVENTEEN. So, SEVENTEEN members not only wrote and actively participated in the creation of lyrics, production, and choreography, but they also directed their first music video, "Adore U," themselves, using just a couple of dollars. They truly made a remarkable journey!
If they're called SEVENTEEN... why are there only 13 members?
This is a question most new baby/new CARATs non-CARAT owners ask. A good question, too!
Seventeen TV (17TV) was a pre-debut online program that showcased SEVENTEEN before their official debut in an attempt to grow their fanbase. But SEVENTEEN's debut kept getting delayed. Did you know? SEVENTEEN was going to debut with 17 members in 2013 along with BTS! But Pledis' bankruptcy led to the delay, and thus, they debuted in 2015.
The official 17 members of SEVENTEEN included trainees Yao Mingming, Shin Dong-jin, Samuel Kim, and Jang Do-yoon.
It's an inside joke between CARATs that Hoshi ate the 4 members (since Hoshi associates himself with tigers), and that's why there are only 13 members.

Now that you roughly know the SEVENTEEN members, I can tell you a few common facts about them!
1. Did you know? DK's real name is not Dokyeom! DK is only short for his stage name. His real name is Lee Seokmin.
2. Dino is known as Jeonghan's baby. It's a recurring joke in the group, where Jeonghan asks Dino, "Dino nugu aegi? (Dino, whose baby are you?)" and Dino responds with "Jeonghan hyung aegi (Jeonghan's baby)".
3. Hoshi has an undying love for tigers and often calls himself a tiger. He has made "Horanghae (I tiger you)" trademark, and pouts when members and CARATs remind him that he's not REALLY a tiger. His facial features resemble those of a hamster, so when someone tells him he looks like a hamster, he gets offended and claims he's a tiger, not a hamster.
4. Woozi is the shortest member of the group, with a height of 5'6 ft. The members often make fun of him for being so short!
5. Although Mingyu is the tallest member of the group, he often gets bullied and made fun of in a joking manner by his bandmates.
6. Minghao is known to hold tea ceremonies. Also, he is the leader of the anti-horanghae agenda.
7. Seungkwan is known as a variety show king, professor of K-pop, due to his immense knowledge about K-pop trends through the years and variety shows.
8. Vernon is severely allergic to peanuts! He's also allergic to cats, but I'm guessing he's only mildly allergic to cats because he had a pet cat before.
9. S.Coups has a tattoo on his back! He and Hoshi were considered the scariest back when SEVENTEEN was still in its predebut era.
10. Wonwoo does gaming lives on WEVERSE. He calls it "GAM3BO1"!
> I feel like this post is getting a little TOO long... I'll post more facts about SEVENTEEN and their green room era next time! Until then, farewell, baby CARAT!
P.S. This is NOT proofread: if you think there's a mistake in what I've posted, feel free to point it out in the comments! Just don't be a loser and start criticizing and being mean for no reason. Thanks! 🩵🩷
