Advice from digital minimalism folks?

Forum: Helping each other

This has been on my mind for soooo long now. I've done a bit of research, daydreamed a lot, gone back and forth on it many times. At first, digital minimalism was something I felt could be really good for me. Then I thought I wouldn't be able to commit to it and tried starting small scale. Like downscaling how many apps I have and trying to stay off my phone/social media as much as I could. That didn't last long. And now I'm back at square one. But I was on youtube this morning and found a video from CBS News about something called The Luddite Club, and it kinda fired me up (funnily enough, I had a dream last night that I completely quit a lot of social media and it felt kinda awesome)

Now this is something I'm considering semi-seriously again. But I have a lot of doubts holding me back. Mostly on how to stay committed and motivated, and also living a digital minimalist life when no one else in your life is? And any other ~wisdom/advice~ you'd like to offer. Thank you!

I think what would help you stray away from digital things more is finding a hobby off digital platforms.
if you don't know where to start just start practicing random things.

Pick up an instrument, start doodling, hike on trails or explore abandonded places, get a book, anything.

it could help sway your mind towards non-digital stuff.

the first step for a lot of digital minimalists is switching to a dumbphone! you can go to the r/dumbphone reddit for more resources and information to find one that's right for you if you think that's something you want to do. if it's not, id suggest keeping all your smart devices like phones, laptops, tablets, etc. in their own spot all day. if you want to use that device, go to the spot, and leave it in that spot when you stop using it. that's really the best way to become less dependent your devices without minimizing them, as well as getting more hobbies and things to do that dont involve devices like the other commenter suggested. you can set screentime limits for specific apps or your entire device too, ive heard people say that thats helpful for them.
