I was recommended this album the other day. I was only vaguely familiar with Get Up and even then it's been a few years since I've heard it. Overall the production on this album is killer I think there were a lot of original elements to it. Get Up is a super original sound since mostly the instrumentals on it is an alarm clock and it just fit so well with the energy of the track. I also think on Body and Blood the darker "Body and Blood" ringing throughout just adds another ominous element to it. It's funny how sometimes though the lyrics kind of cut through that tension, on that song I feel like somebody is about to commit murder and then I just hear Diggs talking about twerking idk it made me laugh a little. Taking Off referenced bombs over baghdad (love) and Tonight referenced keys open doors (love) so it was cool seeing some other rap references throughout the album, too. I also think Taking Off showed that Diggs has a lot more versatility than he lets on flow wise. Something on Inside Out reminded me of Ian's XXL freshman freestyle (Damn I'm on my DJ Khaled shit we the best.. Damn we rollin hella deep, I feel like Adele...) and once I heard it I couldn't unhear it so I was laughing out loud and then the dog I was walking looked at me all scared. I also really love the production on Story 2 it reminds me of stranger things in a way. Idk much about clipping. so I need to do some more research but the rapping over electronic production styles mixed with frantic/screeching energy at times reminds me of a more publicly accessible Death Grips. There's a lot I enjoyed on this album though I'll be revisiting a few tracks for sure. Favorite tracks: Body & Blood, Get Up, Or Die, Story 2.
