Opinions on Vivsiepop animating the homestuck pilot

I just heard it from my brother, and, lemme just say, as an aspiring cartoonist (and hopefully animator once college stops eating up my time), I am on the verge of vomiting.

I have a special desposition for those two shows for many reasons, one of which is the animation style done by Spindlehorse, which looks like how Lackadaisy looks if it was animated by the people who animate Family Guy or Rick and Morty, assuming real people animate those shows.

Now, let's focus on Medrano: I feel like she's real creative and has a lot of potential, but she gets distracted by herself. Remember Zoophobia? Maybe y'all don't, but it was like Medrano trying her hand at something on the level of Homestuck. She tries to build up some crazy plot like HS, but between her still being in college, her drawing all of it, a poor website, and her self distraction, it sorta implodes on itself and she never finished her comic. Granted, Hussie had every chance to end HS with how retarded Act 6 is, but he didn't.

In conclusion, I disapprove of this with every ounce of my being. It's a fucking disaster that has me on the verge of being turned off of Homestuck forever. Why the hell couldn't they have Bandera Entertainment or whoever makes Smiling Friends (BentoBox I think) do this? Whatever, it's not my cartoon/comic/show, it's more incentive for me to read cool and new web comic, and I'm gonna fucking toss my biscuits.

Update: Since there's more people commenting on this bulletin, I'd like note that my views are more in line with Mnemosyne (three down from me), in addition to what's already written up here. Imagine you're talkin with a homestuck and they says "yeah, I'm pretty into Homestuck right now", you say "oh cool, what page are you on?", and they says "...page?". I feel like HS is more presonal and immersive in its original form too. And, thanks to some other replies on here, I now am a bit weary of people from Medrano's other two shows drifting over hear because her names on it and then they decide they're HS fans. Is this the end of Homestuck as we know it? Not at all.

Lastly, Homestuck makes more sense plotwise and universewise, and HS's plot and universe seem to be intricate nonsense (no offense y'all).

From what I've heard, she isn't the one animating it or really has any involvement in it, she's just funding it through her animation company. Either way, I really dislike Homestuck getting lumped in with the Hazbin fandom. 

The thing I hate the most is that now there will be a generation of homestucks who have only ever seen the animated series, and will be completely unaware of so many things that happen in the comic because theres just too much in flash animations games and long dialogues that won't translate to a time constrained animation

IMO, all the drama is bs. She's just producing it and we get another way to enjoy Homestuck besides broken/missing sites.

yo why does they all swear so much omg, i really love homstucks vocab and writing style in the og comic and i was hopeful that we would see that carried through in dialouge but alass some of it is def gone, rose still has her wordy vibe though somewhat, i think dave is more annoying but that may just b me. Yeah other then the swearing its crumulent and im not that upset lol

Pros:

We get something related to Homestuck to soothe us for the next while

Cons:

Where do I even start? Like genuinely. Do I mention Vivzie's colored past? Do I mention the general online consensus that the internet has about both her and her shows? Do I mention how god-awful both of her shows ended up being written when she took over writing? Do I mention her portrayal of sensitive topics in her shows like with the case of Angeldust? Do I mention the fact that apparently she's one of the producers of the HS Animated Series?

Literally nothing good can come from Vivzie-"I prefer writing men"-pop having anything to do with the Homestuck IP.

And yes, I know some older people in the fandom say that the Hazbin fandom is practically our cousins but I DO NOT CLAIM THOSE GUYS. (At least most of us here are grown-ups or can act that way).

i’m trying to be cautiously optimistic about this, but since there’s a whole lot of misinformation going around, i’m not in a rush to form strong opinions yet.

homestuck probably isn’t all that easy to adapt, but all adaptations are difficult, to say the least. i am intrigued to see how they would go about it, if they manage to do it justice.

to be honest, i’m not excited for vivsiepop’s association with the show, since i’m not a fan of hellaverse stuff, and don’t really like the idea of how her reputation will bleed into the perception of the comic itself. but hey! at least she’s not writing it.

the pilot will most certainly bring in new fans though, which is simultaneously a good thing and a bad thing. as a newer homestuck fan myself (joining the fandom only a year or so ago) i’m much less than excited about the (already pretty apparent) hostility of older fans to the potential “newgen” category of homestuck.

all in all, i will try to view this as neutrally as i can until there’s more info about it. if everything goes nicely, this could be another piece of media for the fandom, and it could be good! 

viziepop just sucks. it's like anything she touches turns into a shitty cartoon with bad jokes. pardon my french.

despite Toby Fox being on it, and some really good voice talent (that was sort of horribly miscast), if the script is terrible, their voices and acting skills just wont work. that's the issue i had with her other work. the actors are given a horrible, terrible script, and they try to work around it.

but, it could be good. i'll leave that door open. just so slightly... several micrometers open. 

I don't like it but it's not the end of the world. Vivziepop is a bad person and I'd rather not have her name attached to the franchise, but her animation studio is objectively really good. All her animations are super high quality

i am very nervously optimistic about it-- while i do not like vivziepop nor the shows shes made whatsoever, considering how theres a lot of people on the team are either a) homestuck fans or b) people who have worked on homestuck in the past, i think theres a decent chance things will go better then expected ! from what i understand, viv herself isnt going to be writing for the show or anything like that either, which is definitely a relief to me (((o(*ﾟ▽ﾟ*)o)))

im not saying the shows gonna blow me out of the water or anything crazy; but i dont think its gonna crash and burn quite as badly as people assume just bc vivzie's studio is gonna be producing it

i really despise vivziepop. not only is she a cornball, she is also a terrible person but i'm not getting too into detail. maybe this will revive the fandom, but i really don't get how karkat is in the pilot trailer?? also how would the pesterlogs even work? what about betty crocker and icp and all of the trademarked stuff? not too sure how it will work out, but i like how toby fox is voice acting john.

im trying to get used to it, but personally, it's confusing on how many stuff they had changed and the pacing is a bit quick

uhh idk i dont really hate but i dont really love it, ESPECIALLY THE END PART OMG...there was TOO much going on and i dont think is a good start for someone new considering that also homestuck page is still updating and idk, its just a NO

something that i been seeing on the discord server is about dave...like i get it the voice acting doesnt help but...WHY DID YALL EXPECT TO HIM BE LIKE YALL IMAGINE? like the dave on you mind IS in your mind OF COURSE IS NOT GONNA BE THE ZAME OMGA like im saying ts as a non dave fan but please...

I believe Vivzie is good at animating, do I like her? Not one bit, do I want her to direct or write for it? HELL NO. I just want good animation for it and that's all
