Oh, do I have many!

I started typing this up with real issues I find in the present day scene, but I figured I missed out on the fun of pet peeves. maybe that can be reserved for a "goth problems" thread.

1. That one ankh belt. It's cool but I've seen it way too many times.

2. Corny goth memes that just aren't funny. "haha black coffee cats and bats!"

3. eeeeverbody dyeing their hair black. I know this has been a part of the look since the dawn of goth, I also thought I'd dye my hair black when I was first getting into it... my brown hair was so dreaded because I thought it was the most mundane color out there, not a ghostly blonde or a raven black, just plain old brown hair. but now I love embracing it and having my looks compliment it. I think many more goths should consider embracing their natural hair color, or any other bright hair color and making it a cohesive part of their look, it'd be interesting.

4. Calling Depeche Mode, Type O Negative, HIM, or any band with a somewhat dark and slightly gothic sound "goth bands". As much as I myself love those three, I can only assume and hope that those people are probably just new to goth. They feel like they're losing something if we discredit those bands as gothic rock, because they probably don't listen to much else. It doesn't have to be goth for you to like it!

5. The term "goth music". This one's probably my biggest pet peeve. And if I have to elaborate for some people, it almost sounds like mockery to me, like something to come out of someone who doesn't anything about alternative subcultures. Imagine if we went around saying "metalhead music" instead of metal... It's like you wanna be a metalhead more than you wanna listen to metal, right?

It's very weird when goths themselves say it, again I bet you it's the newbies, because it feels like they're chasing bands for the label of goth rather than for the genuine love of a particular genre. To me it's a tell-tale sign you're looking into "goth music" just you you can just call yourself a goth. Say post-punk, gothic rock, darkwave, deathrock, industrial! There's so much to "Goth music" and there's so much variety within.

I certainly I have many, many more pet peeves. I might even update this or post another reply when they cross my mind.
