How do you go about claspecting?

Classpecting is my favorite and most difficult part of designing fan kids/trolls.

Personally, I just go on vibes and my own theories alone. I don't rely too much on other people's theories or the established canon classpecting descriptions (especially these... eugh...). I typically take the history of the character and try and figure out what may best suit them.

But it's a bit of a doozy because even in canon, characters aren't ever linear; they change along with the story. And that is what I think is most difficult about classpecting.

Still, I'm curious to know how others go about it! Especially since I'm stuck on classpecting some characters for a project I'm working on. xP

P.S.: Sometimes I see people go about it the other way around. I wonder how that works?? Story wise I mean. 'Cause I prefer stories that have more leeway for change. Which goes double for HS because of it's fans' contributions.

I just do the extended zodiac quiz as the character I'm making and then go from there.

Is it the most creative method? No.

Does it give a break down of the moons and aspects, and give you an idea of how your character would act in the given situations? Yes!

Ah yes, the tried-and-true method of classpecting, hehe ^^ It really does save the trouble of doing it based on theory! But for me personally, I disagree on the Extended Zodiac Quiz on some fronts ( ; o3o)

usually i use a rather unholy mixture of vibes, theories, personal inclinations towards how the character's arc will go, and some personal assurance that none of this will be permanent.

because i will change it as soon as i start developing the character.

just having something to start with is a bit better than a blank page for me idk.

but classes are templates for character arcs, not how they are in one given moment, i find. (take for example the page! they are all about changing and growing as a person! and like the knight letting go of their aspect as things around them calm down, similar to putting away a weapon after battle)

then aspects can just be done on a whim. (for me it's really just like: "this guy feels like he'd be a time player, let's make 'em time." "this girl is kinda heart-like actually, so woe, heart purgatory for ye." and really be intuition-and-giggles-based, then give them a little more imagery after!)

(perhaps i speak out of turn as the guy who can't classpect himself, but i swear! i'm better with fictional characters!)

Lol, I get not being able to classpect yourself. I think real people are just hella complex, sometimes too complex to pinpoint a certain class and aspect (at least me and my erratic/neurotic personality).

To me, it's like a personality quiz; it can represent you on a surface level, but it doesn't seem to connect with you on a deeper level.

Or maybe I'm just spewing bullshit. I dunno. ┐( ̄ヮ ̄)┌

I go entirely off of vibes and what the Homestuck wiki says if I feel like it. Classpects in my eyes really don't make too much sense in the comics either so imo if a character feels like they could be a certain classpect or have traits that I personally asoci8 with it, then they are that classpect.

I'm sure someone out there that's dedic8d enough has it all figured out, but I think whatever is the most interesting route for the character to take and for the story has a whole to be impacted by is the best way of going about it.

As someone knew to the fanstuck biz, I usually go by vibes for classpects, basing them off characters' personalities or what I want their arc/story to be. One of my OCs is a Thief of Doom, but she starts as a selfish mean girl, and has to grow into learning to make sacrifices for others (which is how I view that particular classpect). But that's just what I do :]]
