Β β˜…Β β˜…Β β˜…Β β˜…Β β˜†

woah that was good! i found it really entertaining esp with the opening with the dogs (god the audio design is insane for the whimper, barking, wet... mixture of sounds).Β

i think one of the great parts about this movie is that the horror was not the only entertaining part; the character building, the tense scenes, the cringy moments (yes im talking about you, engagement scene, oh, and im DEFINITLEY talking about you, sex scene), and the genuinely funny bits are all entertaining. the movie is actually funny, not in a cheesy, unauthentic way, but in a casual, dry humor way that a couple who have been together for years would throw in an everyday conversation.

the body horror effects were amazing!!! from even the bloating of tim's father to the hair munching scene (lol) to the final merging, the effects and sounds were great! if you love body horror, this is the movie for you!!

now for my analysis....Β ...

LMAO maybe ,,, just maybe i thought too much about this but... i dont see a love story at all... i dont get this happy feeling that they get to live the rest of their life together.Β

i think this was a movie about codependent partners that each have their own reasoning for saving face within their peers. tim is lost, with both the loss of purpose (music dream downhill) and loss of stability (loss of parents). clinging to a "rock" (millie) who will stay and ground him without requiring intimacy, romance, or really anything that requires much effort, allows him to feel... idk less lost.Β

millie is (imo) experencing sunk cost fallacy. she has allowed herself to stay with tim for (i think) 10 years, under the guise that he will change, things will spark again, i have invested so much time and effort i cant give up now. she wants to feel needed. i think this is reflected in the scene where she explains to jaime that her old school where she teached, didn't value her; she hopes she can be of use andΒ change the lives of her students/make them feel her care. she wants to feel that value.Β

i think the ending represents the loss of identity. they could both be what the other wants at the lost of their own differences. tim and millie don't exist anymore at the end and instead are a reflection (a merging) of one. i think the water/energy/cult/uh thing? manipulated their minds to implant the idea that they should WANT to lose themselves. they should want to be one body and not two. idk input something that the cult is just society blah blah lol.Β

idk maybe thats just my too woke take lol. but yeah! thank u for reading!!.

please let me know what YOU think!!!! and ofc disagree with me, im not a movie snob and im not a genius. my surface level take is just my first impression <333
