During the retro mini game console craze, the Playstation was expected to be a good rival against Nintendo. Sure, the game line-up was half decent and it did not come with a power supply... But hey, who didn't have an extra phone charger laying around? And at least it came with 2 controllers, even though they weren't Dual Shock... Well... It stuck to the "classic" formula.

Playstation Classic: The Unsung Hero
As soon as it came out, it was a confirmed failure. Massive disappointment. The games ran like shit. Luckily, this made the prices drop. I recall people saying to have paid about $20 on the discount bin. I personally managed to get one on Amazon for $30. Being from Puerto Rico, the console wasn't easy to find at the local Walmarts, at least on the west side. So, I was happy with the deal, I saved my time and gas money. By the time I got it BleemSync had already came out, which had better emulation than the original software. It worked fine, but I did have some issues with the OTG, so I could only play on single player mode...
A bit of time passed by and I gave it a 2nd try. Project Eris came out. I managed to fix the OTG issue. I was also lucky that 1 of my Switch controllers was compatible (at least via USB). Now I can play a good library of PS1 games and PSP games as well.
Some people may say that a Raspberry Pi is better (which it is when it comes in performance, if we're talking about the model 4), but if you add up a good power supply, micro SD, controllers, usb drive, case with some sort of cooling, it can add up. Not to mention the setup time. I'm a bit OCD when it comes to gaming, so I prefer using my Pi4 for arcade and each mini with it's proprietary library. At least at the time the PS1 classic was a good bargain. If you ask me at this time... Go for the Pi. Get a model 3 with a starter kit. It should be good enough.
Do you own a PS1 Classic? What do you play on it?
Me, Saga Frontier 2. It looks pretty good with the scanline filter.
