My Hottest take on expression.

ok i didn't really know where to post this so i think it would be fitting in this forum.

note: this is just an opinion, you are free to disagree.

i always understood freedom as the capability of doing anything you can, and that includes the bad stuff along with it, like being free to hurt other people.
and i've never really felt that much faith in humanity to be good on it's own will, i feel like we need to be restricted sometimes to be able to do good. and that's where i believe, freedom should be a bit restricted.
freedom allows for good things! but also the bad... that's why i believe there should be some sort of censorship, as much as people say that censorship is bad, i believe it can also be used for good just like freedom. i get where people come from, and say that censorship is bad because it restricts expression, but too much freedom is equally horrible.
much of the content on the internet is allowed to exist by freedom, everyone is free in this endless sea. if you know how technology works well enough you are free to shape everything as you wish, and even with just limited power, people already use the freedom for bad actions, like the creation of harmful content such as nsfw media which can take a drastic toll on someone's mental health or the spreading of misinformation on social spaces.
however, when you bring censorship (with good intent) into the mix, you can eliminate those same threats, eliminate inappropriate content, misinformation, doxxing and etc.
i believe that people shouldn't hate on censorship that much because certain things shouldn't be shared or created due to it's possibility of harming people.

this is off-topic but, in art spaces i always thought that art or expression shouldn't harm anyone, it is a tool for people to vent out their feelings in a constructive way. however the creation of inappropriate content can harm people, yet many still don't care about it's consequences. i distance myself from other artists a lot, and i really wish there were more regulations on stuff like that, because the internet is a hectic and unpredictable place, and the best way to avoid bad results, is to have hindsight and decide whether should an action be taken or not.

thanks for listening, share your thoughts if you feel like it.
i really want to see people's take on this matter.

I definitely agree on this! I worry about the collective psychological effect of the lack of censorship in our times. I think seeing nothing but negativity begets more negativity, and then as a people we could be left spiraling. There is only so much destructive or “foul” material a brain is meant to handle, and if it has to be protected by censorship, then I support it. You can dive into morality a bit, too, and one can say “Okay well morality is opinion.” I understand that, and that’s fine; However, in order to be a better functioning society I don’t believe moral relativism is something we can afford. There is always a base set of “rules” that must be followed for mental health purposes and to protect society as whole. Expressing yourself is fine, but that doesn’t mean everyone *has* to see it. When it comes to a lot of art and even personal garbage I see thrown online, it’s almost like a constant string of boundary-less/unrestricted oversharing and sometimes feels too much. Even when it isn’t necessarily sought out, I would say. I don’t believe that’s something that should necessarily be against the rules on paper, rather it’s a noticeable switch in societal norms that has turned unhealthy. Everyone is acting as though the general public is their best friend and therapist on top of us all gathering around and bearing witness to the sludge fest that is the uncensored world in our hands.

wow turns out my best wishes came true... kinda.

i hope this new censorship of games does not go out of hand, many of the decisions already made make me smile, however i dont want unecessary things to get censored because of biased bastards. i hope for the best.
