ok i didn't really know where to post this so i think it would be fitting in this forum.
note: this is just an opinion, you are free to disagree.
i always understood freedom as the capability of doing anything you can, and that includes the bad stuff along with it, like being free to hurt other people.
and i've never really felt that much faith in humanity to be good on it's own will, i feel like we need to be restricted sometimes to be able to do good. and that's where i believe, freedom should be a bit restricted.
freedom allows for good things! but also the bad... that's why i believe there should be some sort of censorship, as much as people say that censorship is bad, i believe it can also be used for good just like freedom. i get where people come from, and say that censorship is bad because it restricts expression, but too much freedom is equally horrible.
much of the content on the internet is allowed to exist by freedom, everyone is free in this endless sea. if you know how technology works well enough you are free to shape everything as you wish, and even with just limited power, people already use the freedom for bad actions, like the creation of harmful content such as nsfw media which can take a drastic toll on someone's mental health or the spreading of misinformation on social spaces.
however, when you bring censorship (with good intent) into the mix, you can eliminate those same threats, eliminate inappropriate content, misinformation, doxxing and etc.
i believe that people shouldn't hate on censorship that much because certain things shouldn't be shared or created due to it's possibility of harming people.
this is off-topic but, in art spaces i always thought that art or expression shouldn't harm anyone, it is a tool for people to vent out their feelings in a constructive way. however the creation of inappropriate content can harm people, yet many still don't care about it's consequences. i distance myself from other artists a lot, and i really wish there were more regulations on stuff like that, because the internet is a hectic and unpredictable place, and the best way to avoid bad results, is to have hindsight and decide whether should an action be taken or not.
thanks for listening, share your thoughts if you feel like it.
i really want to see people's take on this matter.
