suffering from severe phone/tech addiction

i just found out about spacehey, and i really do love the concept of it.

theres a big problem on my side though: i have an extremely, extremely severe technology addiction. its embarrassingly bad. im talking 12+ hours a day every day for several years glued to my phone or my laptop or video games.

ive been noticing the effects of this for the past two years, as it has severely affected my ability to learn in school, to focus, to accomplish my goals, and so much more.

ive tried so many methods, but nothing seems to work.

one of the biggest problems that cause this is doomscrolling (instagram reels, youtube shorts, etc). its gotten so bad to the point where i cant even sit for a minute without some sort of screen in my hand without my brain yelling at me, or until i space out or something.

ive decided to try to use social media that is less demanding on the brain, social media where i can actually see things i enjoy rather than just endlessly scrolling forever and ever. i want to try to stick to using this, alongside maybe tumblr or something. im gonna try to delete instagram, twitter, reddit, and other stuff too.

its just so hard, but i really wanna take back my life and actually be smart again! im tired of using the easy way out to everything, staying inside and just scrolling forever and ever.

hopefully i can do it ! just wondering if anyone joined spacehey for the same reason as i? feel free to add me!!!!!

huge mood!! a few years back i def had a screen time problem but after setting up screen time passcodes on my phone, switching to a flip phone entirely, putting effort into finding non-phone hobbies, it got a lot easier. not saying you have to do everything i do.

i think the serious problem nowadays is that the internet used to be a place. it used to be that your family or town had a computer in a stationary location that you had to actually walk over to and interact with like a sim. nowadays if you live in a city you're literally surrounded by screens begging you to pay attention to them. if you're anything like me it might be helpful to register modern technology as like a psyop type of thing that's entire existence is to get you to buy something. i am not a target demographic! i am not a consumer!! i will not be easily advertised to!!!

it's not easy and it's not a quick process but it's definitely worthwhile. building up an arsenal of little things to help you detox are gonna make a huge difference.

you got this!!
