People who have struggled with commitment and/or responsibility, how did you overcome it?

I’m referring, of course, to all areas of life, not just romantic relationships. In my view, if you don't embody these qualities as a way of living, then you don't truly possess them at all, though that's a whole other discussion.

I’ve come to realize that I have a serious issue with this, and I’d really like to hear about your experiences and advice. How have you overcome resistance, self-deception, victim thinking, and so on? It’s a complex topic.

Honestly, I'm still struggling with it lol.
Usually I'll ask someone else to help hold me accountable. It's not a long-term solution, but it sure as hell works. I'll also set arbitrary deadlines for small chunks of tasks and give myself little treats when I meet them. :-)

Edit: If I can't find an actual person to hold me accountable, I put on one of those youtube videos where somebody's just sitting there studying. You'd be surprised by how well they work. Also, I wouldn't recommend this one as much, especially if you have anxiety, but I'll also catastrophize. Shit like "if I don't study for this quiz my teacher will hate me and I'll be one step closer to failing." Again, I don't advise this, but push comes to shove, it works. These were all of course written with school and work in mind, but they can be applied broadly too. ^^
