about Windows 10 EOL

it's less than 2 months before Microsoft ends the support for Windows 10, and I really care about the security updates but I can't believe Microsoft saying "just get a better PC" like I would if I got the money but I'm broke af.

I stole my PC from a science lab in my middle school and it's literally trash running on Intel i3 3rd gen and incompatible RAM sticks and no graphic card, so definitely I can't install Windows 11 on it except if there are some workarounds like Tiny11.

is there something I can do or should I switch to Linux? though I'm hesitant since I lived my whole life as a Windows user and I'm afraid of not being able to use some Windows-only software.

why not make a usb bootable linux distro

puppylinux is pretty damn good

that way you get a feel for the filesystem hierarchy b4 actual install of somethin like mint or arch

also for running native windows apps on linux, you should def install wine

>alt-ctrl+t
>sudo apt-get install wine

or use a virtual machine or something idk

anyway

that's actually a good idea tbh, I'll try to find a 16GB USB or more for it. do you have any tips or advice so I don't brick my system?

rn im running arch linux btw as my main but im not a fan of wines performance on my shitty pc (windows compatibility for other OSs) so i run tiny10 as my 2nd operating system. its windows 10 but its stripped of bloat and runs pretty well for windows on my unmodified gpuless optiplex 7010 loll

its v much unheard of for a pc to get bricked

unless you're doing something like overclockin to the extreme lmfaoooooo

so installing an os onto a pen drive is not gonna do anything to the pc itself

iirc with puppy linux, the os saves a "screenshot" of your last session

so when u boot from the pen drive again, all yr files and configs are just as u left em
