Why do people not desire change?

Forum: Life

Today I was moving around posters and pictures in my room. As I was doing so I thought to myself, why don’t people desire change? I decided that this would be the perfect topic for a forum post.

Convenience. We as humans are conditioned to stick to what we know rather than stepping outside of the box. Do you ever wonder what it would be like if you changed your style to the complete opposite of what it is now? Maybe some of you don’t to. Maybe some of you think that it would be cool and exciting, and to that I ask the question, why don’t you? Maybe you can’t afford it. Maybe you are scared of what others will think? This ties back to convenience. Will you change when it’s convenient? Or will you always stick to what you know?

If you can answer one of these questions, please do so, I want to hear your thoughts. Thank you for reading.

Your friend, ry.

i think that most of the time people are afraid of change because they have to do something they've never done before, and humans are always scared of new things. it's easier to stay in your confort zone and don't embrace change, besides from changing your clothes or hairstyle there are people who wont change who they are and their bad habits because it's tough to embrace the path of change. personally i don't really struggle with change a lot, we don't understand how important it is to fill our minds with new experiences and try to do new things.

that's my perspective, this is a really nice topic to talk about.

I think about this often myself, and generally i just come to the kinda disappointing resolution that it's just up to a persons temperament and drive.

Personally, I like familiarity specifically in my room, since its the space i feel safest. but i cannot stand me or my life staying the same for more than a month or two at a time. I constantly crave change since I believe its the best way to progress as a person into the future and when nothing's in the process of changing it feels like a personal failure on my part.

But it's different for others, I recently broke up w my bf of 6 months because I felt like we didn't mesh due to him being the kind of person who is content with never changing. There's nothing wrong with that, and he is a good person but i really found that lack of drive unappealing and i feel like it's something that a person is just naturally comfortable with, or aren't.

All in all, I like talking about this topic!

of course other than convenience, it's also fear. the fact we're social creatures means that we're terrified of being judged for changing. why change if people like the current you? it's sad really. the fact we've let society bring us down to conformists and nothing else.

as much as it seems that people don't like change, i actually think we do.
it's not that we hate change specifically, but the way it appears so suddenly and how we need to adapt to it so quickly, deppending on the situations it changes our whole perspective of the world or our surroundings, giving us new sightings into what we thought we once knew but now it is different.

that realization can often be tiring, and the adaptation to those changes even worse, like for example changing your desk to another side of the room, but now realizing that the outlet is far away so you need to get a power strip to get your set-up working again. its mildly annoying, but its part of the adaptation.

people should be given time to adapt to new circumstances, and it's ok to feel fear when change comes. we can't stop change from happening, and it's hard to prepare for it, but we can always try to see it in a different light and give a new positive meaning to it.

that's how i think at least.
