Hey to all the musicians on this group. What do you play? How long have you been playing it? Do you want to expand you instrumental ingenuity? Are you in a band?

I play bass every now and then, I’m not so loyal to the poor thing but I’m trying to get into it more. Once I actually properly get into the bass, I’d love to promote myself to the fretless. I have to say, Mick Karn inspires the soul of me. There isn’t a specific instrument I want to get into besides the bass, but I’ll take whatever I’m thrown. And I think it’s quite obvious that I’m not in a band- would love to, time will tell for me.

I (very poorly) play guitar! It’s mostly for fun and to have something in the back while I sing because I enjoy that a lot more. I’ve been playing for maybe a little over a year I think but i for sureee do not practice enough haha
I write songs a little bit as well but i’ve not really finished any yet unfortunately. I’d love to learn keyboard maybe as well which would be fun
I’d really love to sing in a band one day, just because like I said it’s so fun and i love how easily you can make it really weird and expressive. Singing feels like a physical release in a way other forms of musical performance aren’t really? if that makes sense?

Also, relate heavily on the lack of loyalty to an instrument, it’s so hard to get a chance to practice stuff ugh

That’s amazing! Hope you can sing for a band. The musical hierarchy: the drums is the fundamental point, assisting the bass; the bass assists the guitar; the guitar assists the voice- and the voice assists the keyboard? What type of style do you like to sing? Song writing can be so fun yet hard, takes a lot to do it. Good luck with finishing it.
Hopefully we’ll make it right to our instruments some day.

Agree 100% on the musical hierarchy haha, everything is so interconnected in music
I really love PJ Harvey’s vocal style - specifically on her first few albums (dry, rid of me, and a little bit on to bring you my love). Basically anything where I can get loud and kind of stretch my voice out as far as I can. I also love singing along to anything very theatrical and dramatic, and in lower registers (some Nick Cave and even Pulp sometimes can get into these sorts of spaces)

Wicked! PJ sings so beautifully in those albums. My favourite songs are the ones where the singers get all energetic and start vocalising with their "OH"'s- hence Fad Gadget, haha. Though, another thing I love of those singers is their showmanship. Nick Cave and Pulp are great too! I have to say, with the time I've known you, the musicians I associate you with are PJ Harvey and the Birthday Party.

Ah sorry for the delayed reply! The lack of notifications when you respond to a forum post is very annoying sometimes Fad Gadget is such a fantastic artist, Frank’s voice is just so incredible and I love how experimental he gets! Also I take it as a major compliment that you associate me with those artists, and I would probably associate you with the Specimen (obviously), but also Fad Gadget as well

All good! It is, hopefully Spacehey can fix that soon. It can be such a bother constantly checking it. Right! He’s such a creative individual. I’m glad and thank you, LOL!

Drums are such a beautiful instrument. I hope you and your band can start playing at gigs. With the songs, perhaps slow it down? And once you're more comfortable with the notes and rhythm, you can gradually speed it up. I may be totally wrong as I play a whole different instrument

Oh amazing! Those guitars do look very cool. Hope you're able to practise until he comes back- perhaps maybe find other instrument enthusiasts to play with?
