Hi! I'm a few days late to this but if it's any help, starting by writing haikus has been a good entry point in my experience. They are fairly straightforward, here are the "rules" to a haiku:
"haiku, unrhymed poetic form consisting of 17 syllables arranged in three lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively. The haiku first emerged in Japanese literature during the 17th century, as a terse reaction to elaborate poetic traditions, though it did not become known by the name haiku until the 19th century." (from Britannica)
usually they include some sort of reference to nature but honestly they can be about whatever you want.
ex:
An ancient pool
A frog jumps in
The sound of water
- Matsuo Basho
(this translation doesn't follow the 5 7 5 rule but you get the idea)
I hope this is useful!
