I think it's cause some companies started becoming obsessed with simplicity and making things way too straight forward imo, and the idea of what the future looked like started to change drastically as tech improved thus changing trendy design aesthetics and stuff. If i'm being real tho, I haven't looked into the history of frutiger aero too much so I wouldn't be suprised if i'm wrong about a lot of it.
Well, maybe the companies and people want things to be more practical and sleek, so they really deyasstified products over time, they take away the freshness, the futuristic from everything, I guess?
I think it had a lot to do with companies trying to turn to more simplistic and flat design. I think Apple app icon designs are one of the best ways to view the change over time, the biggest change was in 2013 or IOS 7, when almost all their designs became simplistic and flat. I believe some of the change had to do with the release of the Xbox one and PlayStation 4 being released that same year. But in general I think it was companies trying to make tech more simplistic and therefore easier to sell to a larger market of people
I honestly didn’t follow the lore, but my blind guess would be that someone “smart” up there one day woke up, like “we NEED minimalism! People need that! And graphic design is my passion, so I know best!” (They didn’t )
