I really loved this novel for what it was trying to achieve but as much as I enjoyed Saya as a character, I really despised Fuminori's writing sometimes.

More than despising the MC despite my understanding of his situation I really REALLY hated the rape part of the story. Saya disgusted me with her treatment of said girl (won't spoil) but she isn't human and doesn't fully understand human emotions. Not excusing her for her behavior (or the writers TBH... I don't feel the scene was necessary at ALL) but I can't think of any reasoning for Fuminori's choice. He understands human emotions and life, regardless of his current situation which is part of the reason I despise that scene so much. Fuminori's previous actions were somewhat explainable, human meat being all he can consume without struggling, being rude to (REDACTED FOR SPOILER REASONS) when he was still understanding his situation and forcing himself to act normal, and murder that Saya manipulated him into were all (not okay) but explainable given his situation, but that one scene ruined him as a character for me entirely. Any sense that was in the story before was thrown out the window so they could add extra gooning, and for a story that handles such serious topics fairly sympathetically, the way "Saya no uta" treats the topic of r*pe is needlessly made to seem "hot" and really didn't need the cgs it had...
I really love Madoka Magica, which is WHY I read "Saya No Uta" in the first place (Gen Urobuchi wrote both), and as much as I loved the writing for most of the novel, the longer ending just really off putted me from the whole thing. I don't think horror media should have any true boundaries IF it is treated as horror. If it's treated as gooner bait I personally feel like it kind of gives you a look into the moral scope of the author... which is concerning. I really hope one day (considering it's one of the most popular visual novels) it gets a rewrite. The story was SO CLOSE to being one of my favorites of all time, but goon culture fucking ruins everything. Even eldritch horror apparently.. .
