Do you believe people have lost the meaning of "Feminism"?

Lately, online I have been seeing lots and lots of people throwing around the word "feminism" but usually they have no idea what they're talking about. This is mostly a behaviour I see from conservative women.

I wonder if feminism as a word has lost its original meaning, and now when people think "feminism" they think of radicalists who say K.A.M. or of the capitalism-infused "feminism" promoting women to sell themselves.

What do you think?

I definitely think the word has been misconstrued especially by right wing people. Feminism isn't about being better than men, or about sex work, but rather about women being equal. Feminism is about having the right to choose. I think a lot of conservatives have led themselves to believe men are the only source of power, so when they see feminism, they see men being "denied power." It's a very slippery slope and simply an ignorant viewpoint.

I think our society is inherently capitalistic and phallocentric, it shapes everything within our society, if it didn't, it simply wouldn't be able to exist within this society. So yeah, i do think feminism has lost or maybe never really have had a good grip on what we should try to achieve. Of course there are historical figures with right intentions and the right words, and i'm not saying i'm any better. But mainstream feminism has and for a long time probably never will be what it truly should be. Not before we realise and try to break out of the mold the society has created for us, the movement.

Also, there's a lot of things we can say is empowering, some we agree on and some we disagree on, i think humans are diverse, so idk what the "right" type of feminist you have to be, but if you have good intentions and are open to have a discussion and maybe even have a change of heart, i'd say they are heading in the right direction.

sorry that became a lot longer than i expected.

I do think that feminism has gotten a bit muddy. From my experience, there a few feminists who believe things are good now, there are some who don't think people that aren't women should benefit with feminism, there are people who believe that feminism is dumb while simultaneously advocating for feminist issues. I think certain people (conservatives mostly) have attributed feminism to one type of person and therefore, since that person who calls themselves a feminist must be unhappy, miserable, and man-hating so all must be like that.

I also think that certain feminists don't allow for you to be different in your beliefs while falling under feminism. That may explain why many sectors have been made to exist like intersectional feminist, radical, TERF [although I don't think that sector counts lol]. Since there was no clear defining of 'feminist', it has been bent and twisted every which way to fit any person's idea.

Also, since so-called killjoy feminists have existed for so long, it has been a passed down rhetoric so the people who hate feminists don't really know what they're hating about the movement.

I personally think it has becasue for some reason alot of people think it means that we think women are better than men which isnt the case at all and i think conservatives think that its supposed to be like a insult (the same way they think calling someone "woke" is gonna hurt they feelings). But at the same time i feel like people never really knew what it was in the first place.
